Open Question: What should I upgrade? My CPU or GPU?

Okay so I have AMD Anthlon 64 X2 3600+ Brisbane 1.9ghz as my CPU and NVIDIA GeForce 7300 SE/ 7200 GS 512MB as my GPU. So I'm playing Heroes Of Newerth, medium settings and no checks for special effects. 20-30fps in game. All I want is to play HoN on 40-50+ FPS. For now I don't have cash to upgrade both so what should I upgrade for better performance? If for example I need to upgrade my GPU, Is there a compatibility issue between GPU and Mobo?
